REACH History

REgionally Assisted Collaborative Housing (REACH)

REACH is a HUD funded HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS) and SPNS (Special Projects of National Significance) competitive grant program. Prior to REACH, the Spokane County Community Services Department, who served as the applicant agency, was awarded a competitive HOPWA grant that targeted only Spokane County (1995-1999). REACH constitutes an expansion of that initial program.

Together with Spokane County Community Services, eight other agencies including three housing authorities, one homeless coalition, the Spokane Volunteers of America office, a community action agency, the Spokane Regional Health District, Title II and Omnibus funded HIV/AIDS Case Managers and CORD, collaborated to provide a wide range of services to persons diagnosed with HIV or AIDS residing within the twenty counties of Eastern Washington. Prior to program enrollment, most of the persons served by the REACH program were homeless, living on the street, at risk for homelessness or residing in substandard living conditions.

REACH targets populations traditionally underserved, particularly those in remote, rural areas. REACH has recently been awarded extended funding (2006-2009).

A variety of ancillary services are also available

IMPORTANT NOTE: All service requests must be submitted to the REACH Advocate in your area and pre-approved prior to receiving any REACH benefits.
